Individual Giving Officer

Position Summary

The Individual Giving Officer is responsible for raising funds for Martha’s Table, by directly cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major and mid-level donors and prospects.  In addition, the Individual Giving Officer supports the Assistant Director of Individual Giving in planning and executing comprehensive individual giving programs, and increasing revenues from individuals and family foundations, in partnership with other External Relations team members.  

Key Responsibilities:

Major Gift and Mid-Level Fundraising

  • Through visits and ongoing communications, directly manages an assigned portfolio of 200+ mid-level and major gift donors/prospects (giving or with capacity to give $500–$10,000+), ensuring sustained and increased support year over year.
  • Plans and implements effective, tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship calendar for donors/prospects in assigned portfolio, utilizing a moves management approach—ensures that assigned donors/prospects remain engaged in the work of Martha’s Table on an ongoing basis, and are asked and thanked in a timely manner.
  • Supports the Assistant Director of Individual Giving in meeting/exceeding revenue targets for individual giving program, including major gifts, special events, and annual donors—responsible for meeting/exceeding specific, personal goals for revenues as well as for contacts/activities.
  • Performs ongoing portfolio review to ensure greatest yield and productivity.
  • Collaborate with communications staff to build and implement digital and direct mail fundraising strategies.

Program Support

  • Supports the Assistant Director of Individual Giving with stewarding and managing the Apple Society (comprised of active donors giving $10,000+ annually).  Helps ensure fulfillment of annual goals for the Apple Society and takes ownership of projects as assigned by the Assistant Director.
  • Focuses special attention on the acquisition of new Apple Society members at the $10,000 segment through direct cultivation and solicitation efforts.
  • Develops individual and family foundation donor pipeline by researching, qualifying, rating, and prioritizing both current supporters and prospects, for self and other portfolio owners. 
  • Assists with the planning and execution of individual giving program(s) including a range of fundraising events; cultivation/stewardship events; donor volunteer opportunities; annual appeals and publications; proposal development; and other special initiatives. 
  • Performs all informal gift acknowledgments for gifts of $500+ from individual and family foundation donors not currently assigned to a portfolio.

Department/Organization Support

  • Maintains complete and timely records of all donor-facing work in Raiser’s Edge—including all outreach/communications, proposals, tasks, and other pertinent details. Tracks work on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Works with Assistant Director of Individual Giving and Martha’s Table programs staff to identify and facilitate meaningful opportunities to engage donors/prospects in the work of Martha’s Table. 
  • Presents regular updates and reports to leadership as requested.
  • Attends various functions and serves as a representative for Martha’s Table.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum of four years of fundraising experience in a nonprofit environment; at least one-two years of major gifts or direct portfolio management experience preferred.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and proven ability to raise significant five- figure + gifts from individuals and family foundations.
  • Experience managing annual giving efforts a plus.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills, with the ability to work effectively and empathize with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
  • High level of comfort and persistence in establishing contact with both managed and unmanaged donors/prospects; experience making cold calls a plus.
  • CRM/fundraising database experience, as well as understanding of wealth screening; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities in an evolving, fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong project management skills.
  • Strong understanding of and enthusiasm for Martha’s Table’s mission and programs, and ability to convey these effectively to donors.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
