Special Assistant, Programs

2018 is a big year for Martha’s Table! We’re moving our headquarters and opening two new locations. We are looking for a highly-motivated individual to help execute a smooth and successful transition to our new homes.  At Martha’s Table, we believe in the power of community – a strong community.  For over 35 years, we have offered a continuum of support — through which we offer access to healthy food and quality education — to strengthen the lives of children and their families, and build stronger, healthier communities.  

Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, the Special Assistant works across the organization on critical projects to support smooth program and strategic alignment, to support deeper community engagement, and to support the strengthening and establishment of community partnerships that align with the mission of Martha’s Table. The ideal candidate will bring their passion for social justice, coupled with strong organization, project management, and communication skills.  The Special Assistant, working with the senior leadership team, will facilitate the creation of projects/programs both inside and outside the organization.  The Special Assistant must have a “roll up your sleeves” attitude and be joyfully willing to step in to do whatever needs to be done at any given time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support leadership in executing a transition plan to ensure Martha’s Table’s success in two new neighborhoods.
  • Project Management
  • Drafting compelling written and visual reports and presentations
  • Support the development and maintenance of relationships with external partners, including other non-profits, schools, government agencies, coalitions, funders, and other supporters.
  • Execute special, one-off research projects that lead to program and strategic decisions in a timely manner.
  • Support leadership in a range of administrative duties including (but not limited to) critical calendaring, budgeting, meeting organization, file organization, drafting of a wide range of documents.

Education

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university

Special Training/Experience

  • Commitment to Martha’s Table’s mission.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an administrative function or in a non-profit environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
  • Experience working, interning or volunteering at a nonprofit social service organization.
  • Project management experience and skills; Project Management Certification preferred.
  • Analytical thinker, excellent researcher.
  • Excellent writing skills and experience creating compelling written and visual content; Proficiency in multiple software applications with a high level of aptitude with Microsoft Office products, including Power Point.  Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud software a plus.
  • Positive energy and attitude; comfortable working in a startup environment, with a new project that is growing and changing every day; team player who is willing to do whatever it takes; openness to learning and growing.
  • Experience working with an organization’s senior leadership preferred.
  • Experience working, interning or volunteering at a nonprofit social service organization.
  • High level of flexibility and patience.
  • Ability to prioritize and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Project management experience and skills; Project Management Certification preferred.
  • Analytical thinker, excellent researcher.
  • Outstanding time management skills and demonstrated history of organizing resources and efficiently delivering on competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of sensitivity and discretion in dealing with donor, leadership, and client information.
