Volunteer Coordinator

Position Summary:

Working under the Assistant Director of Volunteer Engagement, the Volunteer Coordinator position is an essential member of Martha’s Table’s Healthy Eating team that will heavily support volunteer scheduling, training, outreach and recruitment, for the Healthy Eating, Healthy Start, and Healthy Connections. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and serve as point of contact for all on-site volunteers including immediate problem solving and troubleshooting issues with volunteers
  • Manage day-to-day operations of 270 Monday – Friday volunteers including scheduling back-ups and finding replacements when there are cancellations.
  • Communicate volunteer scheduling with program staff and identify new opportunities to connect volunteers with meaningful program experiences that connect to the mission  
  • Conduct an engaging volunteer orientation and training for all new, on-site volunteers that brings our work to life and connects volunteers to our work and goals.
  • Engage volunteers in the Martha’s Table mission by creating a meaningful experience for all volunteers including: forming relationships, performing walk-throughs, and solving volunteer HR issues.
  • Develop new partnerships with organizations and recruit new volunteers for various projects within the organization.  
  • Manage existing partnerships with recurring volunteer McKenna’s Wagon and Food Prep groups.
  • Assign and schedule volunteers based on department and/or volunteer requirements.
  • Maintain volunteer automated scheduling system (Volunteer Hub), tracking and maintenance of accurate records of volunteer participation.
  • Develop and revise program materials, such as volunteer position descriptions, flyers, and training materials.
  • Respond to all volunteer email inquiries
  • Confirms weekly and weekend volunteers across all three programs.
  • Assists in the planning and execute recognition activities for volunteers such as special events, awards, gifts, etc.
  • Assist with data collection and analysis of programmatic data in order to evaluate progress in through the creation of statistical and narrative reports.
  • Serve as a back-up driver for McKenna’s Wagon as needed.
  • Supports the Assistant Director with monthly communications to volunteers.
  • Updates and maintains document database (ETO) of Healthy Start volunteers.
  • Conducts interviews with court-mandated volunteers.

Experience:    

  • At least two years of work experience.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically, MS Word, Excel,
  • Skilled at taking initiative, problem solving, and working independently.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising good judgment, a positive attitude and be a strong team player
  • Skilled at building positive interpersonal relationships, working effectively as part of a team, and managing volunteers.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and community groups.  Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Computer literate and skilled at written (email) communication.
  • Committed to the concept of volunteering and to making a difference in the community.
  • Have a real passion for social justice and the mission of Martha’s Table.
  • Able to respond to organizational change and maintain a positive attitude.

Education:       Bachelor’s  Degree

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • The ideal candidate is pro-active, creative, solution-oriented and passionate about improving food and education resources in DC
  • Must have the ability to work and relate with diverse multi-racial groups
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Two – three years of office experience.
  • Strong group facilitation skills and conflict resolution experience
  • Ability to problem solve, think creatively, and follow through with tasks
  • Must have a sense of humor, a sense of adventure, and interest working in a fast-paced environment with a growing organization!

Licensure/Certifications: Valid driver’s license and ability to drive passenger and cargo vans.
